My dear Eland Toad,

At the last meeting of the Library Committes held on Tuesday

no 17, I read your letter resigning your post as Senior Library

!issistant from the end of September, 1919, I explained to the Com-

mittee that shortly before your return here, when consulted by ang th-

er English University as to the appointment of a chiar Librarian I

submitted your nâng as the most suitable candidate, but that after

giving the matter dus consideration you had determined to carry out İyour long-cherished project of proceeding to China, in order to

study the language and the people.

General regret was expressed by the members present, and the

following resolution ms passed i

add my own deep sense of the loss of such a devoted celleague and

friend.
